Rainbow Beach - Fraser Island - Airlie Beach - Magnetic Island - Cairns

We caught the bus from Brisbane to Rainbow Beach and checked into a hostel with the aim of getting to Fraser Island the next day.Our hostel's quota was full (55 people) but we managed to get on the one next door.We met the next day at 7am after doing all our food, and more importantly booze shopping the night before. Our team name was Team Crazy Pants and we certainly lived up to our name-it consisted of me,Pete and Greg;an English couple called Guy and Camilla;4 Irish by the names of Phil,Johnny,Dave and Cira; and 2 Danish girls. The weather was awful for the first 2 days we were there, and it rained for 6 hours during our first night, and I slept on the roof of our 4x4 for both night, which was strangley comfortable!.However, with an obscene amount of alcohol,we battled through and had a wicked time, with the majority of the booze gone after the first night due to a drinking game called Captain Cook!We did all the usual stuff like Lake McKenzie,Lake Wabby,Indian Head and Maheno Wreck, and we saw dingoes, whales and dolphins.I,with a few others, did a lot of the cooking and I really enjoyed it,but I'm not a camping man I've decided.I had a quality time despite the weather, and this was in main part down to the group and everyone's willingness to get smashed!

We got back from Fraser in the early evening so we got a bus straight upto Airlie Beach.Of course it was raining,so there wasn't much to do,which was lucky as we were there for only one night. We went out but weren't feeling it so got an early night ahead of the bus journey to Townsville so we could go to Magnetic Island to met Nick Leslie! The weather was rubbish when we arrived so drank in the bar early doors and ended up retreating to the dorm room with goon and a few other people. The next day was beautiful weather so we did a walk through the forest to Nelly Bay and we saw a brown snake (very deadly).Again started drinknig early and went to the room to play fuck the dealer and racehorses and it got messy.Had to catch the bus the next morning to Cairns for our last leg of the trip up the East Coast.

We stayed in Gilligan's which is a very lovely, hotel like hostel. We went out every night, drank lots of goon and went to the infamous Woolshed which was a bit of a let down to be honest. The weather was absolutely perfect with no clouds in the sky.We did a day of snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef which was so amazing,by far the best thing I have done on my tour so far! We saw white tipped reef sharks, turtles, barracudas, parrot fish and many other varieties of fish, and where we were was where Blue Planet was filmed. On a completely different note I got my haircut in Cairns and the hairdresser told me I looked like Ashton Kutcher so I was leaving Australia in a pretty confident mood!!!

Australia was pretty good but in some respects but it was also a bit of a let down after the hype it was given from people we had metalong the way and also because of the pretty terrible weather we experienced.I want to go back in the height of their summer and revisit Sydeny,Melbourne,Byron Bay,Surfer's Paradise,Airlie Beach,Mission Beach,Magnetic Island,Cairns,Cape Tribulation and Port Douglas. So that's another massive bit of travelling to do then!!!
