We were now in a rush to get to Surfer's Paradise for the 16th June to meet Carly,Kristen and Stella (Fiji crew) for the end of their exams so we only stayed for one night in Byron. We booked in at the Arts Factory and this was class as it was chilled out,had a decent bar and good food.It was here we got our first bit of sun in Australia so I hit the beach for a few hours before we had to leave. For our only night we hit the goon then went to Cheeky Monkeys and did some dancing on tables and chatted to random Europeans before retiring to bed on account of being way to pissed! We spent the next morning on the beach waiting to catch a bus to Surfers which we were excited about but I would've liked to have stayed there for a bit longer!
When we got to Surfers we checked into the Surf 'n' Sun hostel, apparently the best one on the Gold Coast.the town was awesome and we ended up staying there for 6 days beacuase we liked it and we had the girls there, although it was a bit wierd with all these massive building dotted around and then nothing around them.Anyway, the hostel did nights out every night,so our first and last nights there we paid $5 each and drank as much punch (goon, passion pop and sherry) in 2 hours before going to a club for free and getting a free drink. We had 2 quality boys in our room from Camberley so that made our time there much more enjoyable, even more so as the hostel showed films everyday and you could pick whatever in a hungover state so we watched a lot of Will Ferrel!
We met up with the girls on our second night and went and boozed at their amazing apartment on the 15th floor overlooking the beach. We all went out but managed to lose eachother within 20 minutes but luckily me and Greg met up with Scottish Michael and Big Al so we had a night out with them which was good.Me and Greg worked the next day at 8 for 4 hours moving boxes from one industrial unit to another, getting paid $70 each which covered the next night out!So that night we had a proper night out with the girls drinking at their's then going to a pre-party across town before heading to some bars and having a fun night.Surfers was brilliant,a lot of chilling out done and going out with the girls who I absolutely adore and feel like I've known them for ages! However,we had to head up the coast so next was Brisbane,a place I wasn't expecting to go!
The only reason we were heading to Brisbane was to go to the Australian Zoo, that of Steve Irwin, which is situated about an hour outside the city.It was a bloody freezing cold day with huge winds when we went but it was amazing! We watched a show called Wildlife Warriors 101 which involved elephants, snakes, crocs and loads of birds flying among the crowd. We walked to every section and saw every animal, stroking koalas and kangeroos and we went to the Steve Irwin memorial which was wierd, especially as all the staff knew him and speak about him as he's still alive today. My favourite animals were the kangeroos (surprise surprise!),the otters and the wombats! It was a really fun day and I would not reccommend Brisbane, although we didn't see much of it and didn't really go out so that may be bad advice!
