Australia - Adeliade - Sydney

So we flew to Melbourne on May 31st and as soon as we got there we got what was to be the first of many brutal night journeys on the Greyhound to Adeliade to stay with Mikey K-S.We stayed there for 5 days and really just chilled out at his house, had our first BBQ, watched Mikey play football (filmed him score 2 goals!) and got taken around by him and his girlfriend Amy to places of interest in the city. Also,we went to watch an Aussie Rules game, which was Port Adeliade (the Power) versus Hawthorn and it was terrible standard wise but was quite a good hungover afternoon out.We went out for a big Saturday night, boys only style, and that got out of hand and kind of set the standard for the rest of Oz.Did some exercise for the first time travelling as well as Mikey works at a gym so went there a couple of times and surprisingly didn't feel that unfit!Oh and also,as is sod' law,it rained for 3 days in what is the driest city,in the driest state, in the driest country......this was to become typical for most of Oz!

We got the Greyhound back at night back to Melbourne (12hrs) and we stayed at the Base hostel in St Kilda. We had heard good things about the city from people we had met who had lived there for a bit but I didn't really like it,maybe because of our location, the weather or lack of time spent there. We did a tour round the MCG which is massive and of course we did the Neighbours tour which was the highlight of my time in the city.We got to meet and greet Susan Kennedy which was class on its own,but Dr Carl stopped by and said hello and we also saw Toadie...it was an awesome day!!!It was here that we also began our goon drinking (really really cheap wine in a box, about 5 quid for 4 litres!) and we went out a few times but nothing was really happening in our area of the city and we were pretty lazy and couldn't be bothered to go to Fitzroy and Chapel St.We were happy to get out of Melbourne so we made our way directly to Sydney, but not before another horrible overnight bus journey which was rammed!

We decided to stay at the Base hostel again as they hadn't really let us down so far and this turned out to be in a good location to do everything as it was next to Darling Harbour.First night we were there we did a pub crawl and this was good as it took us all over the city to places we probably wouldn't have bothered to go otherwise. The weekend we were there was the Queen's birthday celebrations so this was a bank holiday, meaning everywhere we went out was rammed and there was lots of trouble and cock blocking going on.We did all the tourist stuff while we were there, like walking over the Harbour Bridge, going to the Opera House, walking through the Botanic Gardens and Parliament House and going to Chinatown. We also went to Bondi Beach but for most of the time while we were in Sydney it was overcast and/raining but despite this I loved the city and that was without meeting any decent people. So I definitely want to go back there in the height of summer to go to Bondi and Manly and bum around for a few weeks and trawl for birds!
